Why Project Heirloom?
History is more than a list of dates and facts—it’s the lived experiences of people, shaped by their hopes, fears, and resilience. Project Heirloom is dedicated to preserving and sharing the personal stories of the Japanese American incarceration during World War II, ensuring they are remembered and passed down through generations, just like family heirlooms.
Using interactive AI technology, we bring these firsthand accounts to life in a dynamic and accessible way. This approach invites students, educators, and communities to engage with history on a deeper level. In this manner, we strive to cultivate empathy, spark nuanced discourse, and encourage the thoughtful exploration of civil rights, identity, and justice.
